Citation Analysis

See which sources AI engines cite when they answer your prompts.

Citations Page

The Citations page shows which domains and pages AI engines cite when responding to your prompts, filtered by time range, platform, and tags. Engines that search the web, like ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, and Google AI Mode, cite their sources; a model answering without web search returns none.

Source Categories

Every cited domain is sorted into a category, so you can see the shape of your sources without tagging them by hand: Brand, Competitor, Editorial, Reviews, Ecommerce, Social, Developer, PR, Reference, Institutional, and Other.

Citations to your website and your brand's additional domains count as Brand. If you spot one of your own domains, or a competitor's, filed under another category, you can add it as a brand domain or to an existing competitor straight from the domain list.

Why Citations Matter

Citations tell you:

  • What sources AI engines trust in your category — the pages you want to appear on or outrank
  • Where competitors are getting cited — revealing content gaps and outreach targets
  • Which of your pages AI engines reference — showing what content already works for AEO

Using Citation Data

When competitors are cited more than your brand:

  1. Open Content Gaps to find the prompts where they're cited and you aren't
  2. Look at the specific URLs being cited and what those pages offer
  3. Create or improve your own content, or pitch the third-party sites AI engines already cite
  4. Run an audit afterward and compare it with an earlier one to see whether your citation share improved

The Opportunities page turns the same data into a ready-made list of content, outreach, and community ideas, refreshed weekly.
